Hi! For my post I am going to do a little advertising. This summer I worked for a company called Dormify. They are just starting up and the website launched just a few weeks ago. The website is geared at college kids to find bedding they actually like for their dorm rooms. The company also has these posters in every letter of the alphabet and greek alphabet in which you can choose what you want. Each poster has a black and white foundation and upon request you get to pick the third color to match your room. The posters will be for sale shortly, but they are great. The website has a new blog each week (all written by me) so go check them out! Dormify.com These posters are all made in photoshop and illustrator and thought I should share them and show what you can do with letters.
I recently came across this Chanel poster advertising Chanel No. 5 perfume. When examining the poster, I couldn’t help but notice how simple the design was and how it effectively conveyed both the name of the company and the product that Chanel had targeted to advertise. I also liked how the poster contained two contrasting colors as well!
What do you see when you look at this image?
I was attracted to this image because of how complex it was. There are so many things going on in this image that you are easily drawn to it. The colore scheme is very dark and mysterious but somehow fits together. An excellent source of inspiration for our poster project.
I came across these crazy speakers today on Engadget, a technology blog. Glass speakers are not a necessarily new concept, as companies like Brookstone selling them for a few years now, but I thought the design of these were very inspirational, elegant and, most importantly, simple. The curvature of the glass reminds me of some of the new architecture in Dubai, and I find glass to be one of the most popular new materials to use in architecture due to its simplicity
Most importantly, though, is that these speakers have taken a normally bland object and transformed it into something that borders on a piece of art.
I stumbled across this site that has over 50 different business card ideas, all of them really creative with a cool design element. Some of them are less practical than others, but all of them got me thinking about the poster project and the best way to quickly communicate your message. The rest of the images can be found here.
One of my best friend’s Amanda Zuckerman had the privilege to intern at Vogue this summer in the arts & graphics department. She is currently a sophomore at the Sam Fox School of Art & Design at WashU. While interning at Vogue this summer, one of Amanda’s biggest tasks was to design Vogue’s second annual “Fashion Night Out” posters. The two posters that she created (one being the one shown) were shown throughout the stores in New York City and on the website (www.fashionnightout.com). She designed the posters keeping it within theme of last year’s posters. Thinking ahead to our next project, posters, got me thinking about this one. I think that the use of the red really stands out and grabs the audience’s attention when looking at it in a store window. The use of the models softens up the poster for this event, as they are dressed in ‘cute’ clothing. I think the poster works very well for this event. I look forward to working on my own project.
Here’s a list of 27 different websites that show you how to use Photoshop to create a website. There’s a lot of different themes and samples, really helpful.
apparently youtube is redesigning to focus more on tv shows and feature movies over user content to increase advertising revenue.
