Typography/Graphics

December 6, 2010  |  inspire  |  No Comments

I thought this poster was really cool because it combined typography with images. The writing in the poster form an image based on the color of the typography.  The poster illuminates the tremendous impact that typography can have on a project.

Color IQ Test

Think you can tell different shades of colors? Well, this IQ test could be much more difficult than you think. Try and place the color hues in the correct order without hurting your eyes too much. I scored a 4 out of 99 with 0 being the best, so I would say I did fairly well.

Evolve

I really liked the theme of this homepage.  All the graphics on this homepage are directed towards the theme of evolution.  The caterpillar evolving into a butterfly is a metaphor for how a person can take their career to the next level, which is what this site promotes.  I also like the navigation bar.  All the website links are neatly arranged making them easily accessible to users.  The contrast between the bright orange and purple catches the eye.

Web Design Layout

I really like the look of this webpage layout.  The logo utilizes a lot of color while at the same time making important navigation links easily accessible to the user.  I like that the designer put contact information at the top so users can easily get more information if they want it. The featured works catch my attention through their vibrant colors and contrasting typographies.  I want to use this webpage as inspiration for my website project.

Newsmap Site

November 18, 2010  |  Inspiration, inspire  |  No Comments

I know most of us are still going crazy trying to finish the magazine project, BUT I wanted to share with everyone a website that has gotten little attention yet is one of the most innovative I’ve ever seen.  Newsmap is a site that allows you to see as much (or as little) news as you’d like by means of various-sized boxes.  After creating a username and password, you can set Newsmap to load different types of news from as many countries as you’d like.  Each news story appears in a box that clicks-through to the article, and as a story becomes more popular, has more hits & related stories, etc., the box becomes larger (you should have seen the box for Michael Jackson’s death last year, it practically took up the whole page!).

This site is really inspirational for my web design project.  It shows that a simple concept, along with relatively simple execution, can make a site that people will remember and visit repeatedly.  Newsmap is now my homepage, and I’m stoked that I discovered it nearly a year ago.

Inspire

I stumbled upon this image and thought it could be inspirational for the magazine project.  It shows the different ways that typography can be transformed into images.  It also utilizes vibrant hues of the entire color spectrum.

When I was looking online at magazine spreads in order to generate some ideas, I came across this website: http://bestdesignoptions.com/?p=4076. The website contains 20 different examples of creative magazine spreads. All of the examples I think are extremely well-done and effective. Hope this helps !!!!!!

FIFA World Cup 2014 Logo

November 11, 2010  |  Inspiration, inspire  |  1 Comment

Today I stumbled upon the logo for the FIFA World Cup games in 2014, planned to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  I think that this logo is stunning; the color palette is extremely refreshing, and I thought the meshing of the shape of a soccer ball with the hand holding it was so creative.  Hopefully this inspires you, since it definitely has for me!

(semi-recent) new MSNBC site

October 28, 2010  |  inspire, web  |  No Comments

To be honest, I’m kind of obsessed with news.  I read it all day, subscribe to a whole bunch of twitter news feeds, and most of my bookmarks in Firefox are for news sites.  Recently, I’ve taken a liking to MSNBC’s new site.  The use of the full color spectrum draws in the reader to the many news sections, and I really like integrated the social media functionality is within articles.  This site is definitely an inspiration for me, especially because our final project of the semester involves web design.

Poke around the site for a bit, I bet you’ll like it!
