I really enjoyed looking at this photo after a long week of classes–very relaxing. When choosing photos for the magazine project, I was attracted to choosing images that somewhat shared a story with the various themes within the photo. Looking at the photo the sunset in the background sets the tone for looking at the outlines of the buildings that appear mysterious. I could see this being used in a scary movie during a specific scene before a kill!
For my poster project I chose the Fashion Targets Breast Cancer initiative. The Council of Fashion Designers of America created this philanthropy to help raise money for Breast Cancer. Clothing such as scarves and t-shirts have been made in the past to help raise money for this cause. Two years ago Fashion Targets Breast Cancer teamed up with Nine West to start “Runway Relief”. “Runway Relief” is models wear pedometers on their shoes for the entire week of Fashion Week and for every step they take they raise money for breast cancer. For my poster, I began with really wanting to make a bra out of words and have it hanging on a hanger. However, I evolved the bra idea (being that it was not working and was a little too cliché for breast cancer) and turning it into legs and pink shoes for that Runway Relief is for walking. I took pictures of my friends’ legs and then posterized them in Photoshop. I used hot pink instead of the softer tone of pink for breast cancer because I think it was more powerful for my poster. I think this poster really works for Runway Relief. I personally do not like when things are too crazy and cluttered and I think my poster is clean, simple, yet also chic.
There is no artist better at using color than Mark Rothko. Here is just one example. Click for more.
I was attracted to this post because it goes along with the various initatives on saving our planet and eating healthier. I also wanted to use this image because of its simplicity. I like how the colors convey a sense of wanting to pay attention to the image, wanting to see what it is all about etc.
Hi! For my post I am going to do a little advertising. This summer I worked for a company called Dormify. They are just starting up and the website launched just a few weeks ago. The website is geared at college kids to find bedding they actually like for their dorm rooms. The company also has these posters in every letter of the alphabet and greek alphabet in which you can choose what you want. Each poster has a black and white foundation and upon request you get to pick the third color to match your room. The posters will be for sale shortly, but they are great. The website has a new blog each week (all written by me) so go check them out! Dormify.com These posters are all made in photoshop and illustrator and thought I should share them and show what you can do with letters.
What do you see when you look at this image?
I was attracted to this image because of how complex it was. There are so many things going on in this image that you are easily drawn to it. The colore scheme is very dark and mysterious but somehow fits together. An excellent source of inspiration for our poster project.
I couldn’t believe it until I read the article, but these pictures are actually not photographs; they’re paintings.
Hyper-realist still life painters create the illusion of reality to make their paintings look like actual photography, and I just can’t get over how completely real they look. Though at first glance they seem like particularly high-resolution photos or photoshopped images, they are entirely the artist’s hand creation. I figured that there must be some design element here, but it is all done by painting.
The article, as well as many more examples of these amazing paintings, can be found here.

Camera Obscura album
I wanted to post Camera Obscura’s My Maudlin Career album. The artwork of this album is detailed and highly creative. I may be wrong, but it seems like a combination of water paint and other installations; I’m almost certain a graphics program was used to create the final look.
Maybe I’ll learn how to create album covers from GRA217-8?
Karen Hor
This photo of an artist’s studio table inspires me. I love that all his supplies are in a somewhat disordered orderly fashion surrounding the finished product. It reminds me that any project takes several steps, a lot of time, patience, and hard work but it is worth it to see a beautiful outcome.
