So I must have changed my magazine idea hundreds of times. From a Greek tragedy of suicide, to beauty in the black race, to the Harry potter phenomenon, all the way back to Emma Watson. After realizing that this should have been m first choice I stuck with it and created a theme that stayed consistent throughout, which I hoped to be visually effective.
I didn’t use a real story because I didn’t fine an article long enough, but for my redo I’m going to write my own story. My theme is Emma Watson all grown up. We’ve seen here in the face of the media since she was just 9 or 10 years old, and now she is all grown up, more beautiful than ever, more confident, and more like an everyday person.
My cover shows an Emma Watson like never before. The title of my magazine is called Spotlight, which puts out an issue that gives a spotlight on certain people and or topics. This month’s issue features Emma as the headline article, as well as college trends, dating gossip, etc.
I really liked the colors of her dress so I incorporated that into my title. I know magazine titles don’t usually change with each issue, but I decided that my magazine would have the colors change, but not font, so that it gives off something easy on the eye, and something that incorporates the person on the cover.
My first two pages show a sterner Emma. Less playful, more serious, so that you know it’s the real her, and she’s all grown up and ready to shine. Another reason why I showed a picture where she was serious instead of her signature smile is because with the ending of Harry Potter, people are saying it is the end of her and her career, but she knows its not and gets offended by such comments. I chose pink to show a soft subtleness, and a font that seemed like a signature. This is the beginning of Emma’s new life thanks to the happy ending of her Harry potter career.
The next few pages show a vertical image of Emma, so I used vertical text that curved to her body. I also liked the color tone of the image so I used the color of her lips as her pull quote and made the body text flow around that with text wrap and oversized under opacity quotation marks.
The next few pages is one image of Emma, which shows a serious of poses she does all incorporating a different kind of body language, and mood. So I decided for my side bar to do a question and answer. Four questions for four poses, which give the theme of my magazine an enhanced effect because it relates, and explaining how she feels about the ending of the Harry potter franchise, as well as her new life without harry potter.
Then of course for my ad I chose the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows promo because people reading this magazine would be Harry Potter fans of course, and want to see the movie, or they’d be people who like Emma Watson and may see the movie just because they now know who she is.
Someone posted this site before, and I did use it as inspiration when trying to come up with the design portion of my magazine spread. So i just wanted to say thank you and repost it again just in case someone last minute still needs help.
For some reason word press has changed the color on my stationary and front envelope designs.

I decided that I wanted to do an event that I volunteered at last year known as The Defend Your Honor basketball tournament. The brothers of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated sponsor the event and all proceeds are donated to project feed me which is a non profit organization started by a student here on campus that donates food to families faced with poverty in New York City during Thanksgiving. This will be the third year that they host the event.
I started off with the concept of having an actual earth and incorporating lines from off of a basketball. The slogan for project feed me is “Act locally, Think Globally,” so I changed it around and said “Hoop Locally, Think Globally.” Which I think is fun and effective. The earth was to incorporate the global aspect, as well as having the feel of a basketball to get the basketball tournament aspect across. After speaking with Ken, I realized that my play on Project Feed Me’s logo was really cool so I decided to do more with that. My ideas included a basketball and a globe as the actual O’s in the text, but I realized it looked displaced. I also took pictures of a basketball, traced it and masked it to create a perfect circle.
My final version includes a basketball displaced to the side. I like what it does to the poster when it is displaced to one side. I made the “locally” text orange and blue because our local atmosphere is SU hence SU colors. The “globally” text I wanted to be black, but it interfered with the basketball and I didn’t want to move the basketball so I made a stroke on the text that was green, hence an earth tone.
Overall I like the poster. It is simple, yet having a graphical element too. I would stop and look.
This would be a really cool effect for anyone who wanted to have a type face with a wooden feel to it. I tried it out a couple of times
This is an example of a real picture taken and made into an illustration. My poster is going t have more of a comical approach, but I love when stuff like this appeals to the emotions. Isn’t that what makes it powerful. Humor is good and everything, but something like this is so powerful, you can almost feel for the person as if you were right there with him. I like simple too, but if the poster was complex and powerful, it would work for me!
This is a poster I found when looking for examples of charity event posters. It’s so simple, such a simple concept. Health care for everyone. The people are hand drawn by a child. It seems as though when we as people get older we lose the innocence of youth, where everyone is the same, color blind, little to no stereotype, just love imagination and wonder. So simple, yet so powerful.
What inspires me? An innocent creation of something more grand and genius! Spirited Away has been my favorite movie for as long as I can remember. It's packed full of heart warming morals, and imagination that allows one to open up their minds and create something magical as well. This movie inspires me because it helps me to see outside the box. Not everything may be as it seems, but it still can be beautiful.
