I came across this site while reading my friends’ tweets. My friend Alex posted this website linked to her tweet stating that Gap decided to create a logo for their athletic apparel line. My life changed ever since. This website has ALL THE LATEST news on companies and businesses changing their logos. Any type of branding news is on this site. It’s a great inspiration for our upcoming logo design project.
Many logos on the site inspired me. I hope this site gives you all ideas for your logo.
Poster Project Rationale
The GRA217 Poster project is a personal struggle for me. I never believed I lacked creativity until I was introduced to this graphics poster project. The simplicity of my poster was a product of my best efforts given the time allocated (a part from my class and extra curricular schedule.) So, please bear with me.
When Professor Harper announced the assignment to the class I began brainstorming all the things I care about in my life. I immediately thought about my Shih-Tzu pup back at home. I often times find myself glued to Animal Planet; one of the shows I watch the most is Animal Cops. Animals Cops is a reality show based on ASPCA’s (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) efforts to stop animal cruelty, animal abandonment, and find homes for strays. Consequently, there were two routes I could go: dark and sad (stop animal cruelty), or cute and happy (sheltering strays). PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) does a great job at creating controversial posters that tug at your gag reflexes, so I decided to leave the PETA mentality out of my poster and turn to the cute and happy route. I wanted to localize the event, and luckily, Central New York actually has an ASPCA sector here called CNYSPCA. I Googled adoption events and found a recent adoption event from this part April to May. From there, CNYSPCA’s (simple) site and photos inspired me. CNYSPCA’s paw-imprinted heart is the same one you see replacing the “A” in “Adopt-A-Thon.” I also made sure to use the same orange color from the ASPCA logo as my font color to make sure it emulates relationship between my event and the organization hosting it. I had complications with a spunky catchphrase for my poster, hence, “What’s up, dawg?” I wanted my poster to say something that will attract a young demographic—perhaps a new couple that just moved in together—in a humorous way. If you look at the font, I originally had a gray font color in addition to the white and orange font colors. I just thought it was too much confusion for the eye and decided to limit it to two colors.
I originally wanted to put a bunch of dog’s faces in the letter’s shapes, but Professor Harper thought it was too much and too messy. Well, it was that and a combination of a gradient effect and a poorly traced toy dog bone I purchased from CVS.
So, there it is. My CNYSPCA Adopt-A-Thon poster.
In spirit of our next project, here is a logo I’m sure Professor Harper will love.
Gap’s “heavy black Helvetica” font logo.
There has been a great amount of debate about Gap’s decision to rebrand. Personally, I believe it’s a failure. Gap has been centered around on its logo for decades. To change it now seems counteractive. It’s not working with the clothing brand we’ve known in the past. I guess, since now Gap’s apparel seems to be increasingly expensive compared to the prices in the past, rebranding its logo makes sense. Regardless, the old logo just looks more expensive than the new logo anyway. How do you guys feel about this logo? …. that blue box in the corner just looks stupid to me. I don’t get it.
I am the most lame photoshop user, ever, in life. I rely on tutorials as much as I rely on air for life. However, because I am so lame, I still don’t understand how to use many features on all Adobe suite applications (i.e. Photoshop, etc.) I came across this tutorial online. I never knew that an “Extract Filter” existed, and I do not know what it means. I’ve tried following 2 tutorials (not videos) posted from another site using extract tool, but still can’t master it. This is my latest attempt at photoshopping my dog’s fur…
P.S. I can’t wait until I meet with my GRA218 instructor.
I found this site for super simple photoshop techniques. Hence, free. These are probably best used for simple effects. Perhaps you would like to know how to put a lightening in your bottle.
You can click the image to the site.
Hope this helps! Enjoy.
I have always loved animals. I am a follower of the Animal Planet channel and a devote supporter of the ASPCA team, (I like watching Animal Cops). For this assignment, I am inspired by the ASPCA team’s efforts in protecting and healing animals. Also, I have a beautiful Shih Tzu/Havanese mix dog at home
. I hope I can create a creative, provocative, informative, and attractive poster for the ASPCA. Maybe if it’s good enough, they’ll buy the poster off me haha
I can dream.
This album cover reminded me of the post-it youtube clip you showed in class today – (the one from the students in Savannah College). If you look closely, even a dollar bill was ripped to make this photo (i know, $1 is not a lot). There are so many things we can do with simple tools. I wonder who thought tearing pieces of papers can actually be arranged to look like rapper T.I. This is cool.

The power of typography can be grandeur. With text and color, pro manipulation can create something many people wouldn’t have first thought of. I know this may not be the most original work of art, but this looks awesome. All made up of text and black and white…gray and little bit of green.

Camera Obscura album
I wanted to post Camera Obscura’s My Maudlin Career album. The artwork of this album is detailed and highly creative. I may be wrong, but it seems like a combination of water paint and other installations; I’m almost certain a graphics program was used to create the final look.
Maybe I’ll learn how to create album covers from GRA217-8?

Back in the day, freshman year at Syracuse University, I majored in Communications & Rhetorical Studies. Many people (no names) called this the Newhouse rejects’ major (oh, and look who’s laughing now.) Anyway, I took CRS225 – Public Advocacy. I will always remember this YouTube video my professor showed her students.
It was the Dove Evolution Campaign. This video, for obvious reasons, may affect women moreso than men. However, it invites a womb of individuals from all professions. Advertisers, make-up artists, Photoshop experts, businesswomen, businessmen, mothers, daughters, sisters, friends. The young, the old, and the inbetweens.
How far do we go to create “beauty” with a touch of technology and a bottle of foundation? Is it our fault for literally buying into this finale (whether it’s foundation to cover up acne scars, or Photoshop to make sure our Facebook Profile picture depicts a picture perfect face of ourselves)? And is it our fault for not realizing what we see has been altered? I guess, either way, it’s our fault.
But no. This is art, most will argue. If people knew that it was Photoshopped and knew that behind all that make-up is a real person with flaws, then all of this controversy would not exist. And it’s true. It is a form of art, and people should know that those women on the magazine are Photoshopped (hello, America’s Next Top Model). And why are they Photoshopped? Because it is another form of art. We hire graphic designers to attract viewers for a website. We hire artists to create something visually pleasing for a museum. These are the people who help us define “aesthetic.” Why would Photoshopping a person’s face any different? Art is subjective.
At the end of the clip, the billboard reads, “FASEL.” I’m pretty sure it’s an anagram for “FALSE.”
