I found a website, http://www.freewebsitetemplates.com/template2.php , with tons of website templates. I found looking through them helpful when trying to think of a design layout
I went in many different directions before finally choosing my final idea for my magazine theme. Initially I had wanted to go a magazine on late night talk show host, Chelsea Handler, however I found it challenging to find a nice selection of high enough resolution photos. I then thought of doing a Christmas magazine but didn’t find it as visually appealing as I had imagined my magazine to be. So finally I decided to do a spread of country music star, Kenny Chesney. He had a wide variety of photos on google images with high resolutions, which made it fun to actually select photos I wanted to use rather than only use the couple that would work.
For my spreads I wanted in action concert shots of Kenny because he is known for his amazing live performances. His new single, “The Boys of Fall,” has really resonated with the NFL and has been used at the theme song this this years season. My story is about that song and how high school football changed Kenny’s life. For my side bar I did an excerpt about how Kenny’s song inspired a football documentary that is now available on DVD. Since Kenny Chesney is a country music star I tried to brainstorm names that would be appropriate for a country magazine. I wanted something short and simple and that’s how I came up with “Twang”. For my advertisement I wanted to use the Brett Favre “Wrangler Jean’s” advertisement but I was disappointed when I couldn’t have a clear enough picture—I thought Brett Favre would have been perfect because wrangler jeans are more western and Favre is an NFL player, which would have tied in nicely with my story about football. Since I was unable to use that advertisement I then settled with an advertisement for the upcoming Country Music Awards on ABC. I felt as though that would be an appropriate advertisement in a country magazine. Overall, I am happy with my final magazine.
Here is another cover of Rolling Stone that I personally like. 1. because I love the show Mad Men and 2. it’s very elegant and seductive, characteristics that match the show itself. Overall I love the covers that Rolling Stone creates for each of their magazines
I found this helpful for when trying to get inspiration for a cover. It provides tips on what fonts to use and not use and what to avoid and consider when designing a great cover!
When I think of appealing magazine covers I immediately think of Rolling Stone. They always have really intriguing covers with popular celebrities. Personally I’m obsessed with the TV show Friends so when Rolling Stone came out with this cover I was immediately obsessed with it
The non-profit organization that I chose is The Jimmy Fund. They’re a popular organization working to fight cancer in the Boston area. They present many known events such as the Boston Marathon and ½ Marathon. The event I chose to create my poster for is Fantasy Day at Fenway. Fantasy Day is an annual event when people can purchase packages that include either batting, fielding, or other activities—all the proceeds going towards cancer research. I wanted a poster that would stand out and be more interesting rather than a normal poster for Fantasy Day such as a white background with text and perhaps a picture of Wally the mascot. Since the event is for cancer I wanted to incorporate an awareness ribbon. I decided to draw and scan my own design of a ribbon, which is in the trademark font of the Boston Red Sox—I felt this was appropriate seeing as the Red Sox are the sponsors for this event, and it takes place at Fenway Park (they’re home stadium). When I finished my project I had all the elements my final poster has except instead of the opaque background image of Fenway Park I just had a blue background. I wanted to somehow incorporate Fenway into the picture to add more visual elements because of my poster was dominated by type. I have my own pictures of Fenway Park from games I’ve been too but for my poster I wanted a certain angle and view of the Park so I resorted to Google images. Knowing I had to make the image my own I uploaded a picture into Illustrator and immediately began by tracing the image. Knowing that was not enough to alter the image I added filters, changed colors and “smudged” parts of the image to change the shape and style. The quote across the top “It Takes More than Courage to Beat Cancer” is the tagline for the Jimmy Fund, which I decided to insert also in the Boston Red Sox font. I feel like this is an even that people would want to participate in because it gives them a chance to feel like a part of their favorite team. That being said I believe my target audience would be Red Sox fans or people in the area trying to raise awareness for cancer. They’re able to stand in the Red Sox dugout, meet the players and actually play on the same field. Since I knew that idea would attract people I decided to incorporate that into my poster by listing the events available across the bottom.
This website has tons of really cool tutorials for effects on Photoshop. The picture I posted is how to make a water reflection. They have tons of effects ranging from adding rainbows, adding reflections into sunglasses, or even how to make someone look older than they are. All of these effects are really fun to play around with and can be useful when trying to design your poster.

A non-profit organization that I’ve personally been involved with is The Jimmy Fund– an organization working to fight against cancer in both children and adults. In 1953 the Boston Red Sox adopted the Jimmy Fund as their official charity and have continued to work for them and raise money through various types of fundraising and events.

Most people prefer a classic and simple resume, however here are 45 examples of creative and personalized resumes. I really enjoyed looking through these because not only do you learn about the person from their skills and experience, but you get to learn a lot about them from the layout and design of the resume itself. Each one has a distinct and personalized style making each resume different from any other resume an employer would shuffle through. I chose this post because I found it helpful when trying to think of ideas for my own resume.
