Moran Cara Web Design

December 8, 2010  |  Web Student Work  |  No Comments

For my web design I decided to use the same non-profit that I had used for my poster project, Fantasy Day at Fenway hosted by the Jimmy Fund. This is an event held at Fenway Park, home for the Boston Red Sox, where people join to fundraise for cancer research. My poster was very complex, so for my website I wanted to go with a simpler approach. For my theme colors I used the team colors for the Red Sox – blue, red, white and silver. I made sure to include at least one photo on each page because I believe images really attract people and make the message much more powerful. For the images I kept the theme of having one image stretched across the width of the page with a gradient to incorporate the header text. I believe my web design would be very simple for users to navigate- making it an effective website.

I decided to include four pages on the website – a home page, about us, participation and contact. I tried to keep the theme within each page consistent by using the same color scheme and general layout.

Self Control App

While we’re all building our websites, it’s also interesting to think about how distracting some websites can be – facebook, espn, etc. A new app is taking over campus, it allows you to set a list of websites you want to block from your computer for a designated amount of time. Ranges from 15 minutes to 48 hours. Try this app out while you’re trying to study for exams and facebook is getting too distracting! http://visitsteve.com/work/selfcontrol/

Moran Cara Poster Redo

December 3, 2010  |  Resources  |  No Comments

For my original poster the “Red Sox” ribbon was the main visual, and it was distorted and had some clean up issues. Since I wanted to still use the ribbon in my redo I redrew the ribbon, cleaned it up on photoshop, and changed the visual to imitate a baseball—trying to link my poster more to baseball. I got rid of the background image of Fenway because it was confusing and out of place in the background. To make my poster more incorporated around baseball—what the event is actually about—I turned the ribbon into a baseball, and included the “Green Monster” Red Sox scoreboard. To make the score board my own, I took out the words of the teams, innings and scores and replaced them with the name and date of my non-profit event. To also incorporate the text more with my graphics I used the ribbon to replace the “o” in “more”. Overall, I’m much happier with my design of the redo, it’s a lot cleaner and visually appealing.
