The first 45 minutes of this class a guest speaker, Kelly Brown, spoke about putting together a resume.. she talked and clicked way too fast for me to take notes, but her ideas were clear and hopefully we all picked up something from her presentation. Plus, some of her ideas are debatable.
We discussed wordmarks and how they should be simple and scalable. Your wordmark is your identity. It’s important to make many variations to choose from. It’s important that your wordmark has versatility. It should look just as professional and recognizable on a billboard as it does on a business card or on the web. Professor Harper used the crushed Coca-Cola can image as an example. He showed how the Coke image could be recognized even after being distorted. This image Professor Harper pulled up from the links that students had submitted to the blog site (this site).
You should look into getting your name registered as a domain. You can do this at http://www.hostway.com It should allow you to register your domain without having to get hosting services as well. The domain registration should be less than $10 a year.
Professor Harper mentioned it’s important to be surrounded by people who are smarter than yourself. They may not be smarter overall, but they could have a specific field they are more knowledgable in.
